Key People

Neil AtkinsonNeil M. Atkinson, PE, RPLS

President, Engineer, and Surveyor. Neil started surveying for Atkinson Engineers at age 10. He graduated from Texas A&M’s Civil Engineering program in 1999. He returned to working full time with his father, R.M. Atkinson, Jr., PE, RPLS, as an E.I.T. After 4 years of working on a variety of projects, he passed the PE and became a professional engineer. In 2006 he received his professional surveyor license.  He has done site design for shopping centers, neighborhoods, office complexes, apartment complexes, warehouses, and industrial complexes. He has worked on flood mitigation projects, as well. His reputation, demeanor, and knowledge have been an asset to the client as an expert witness in all the cases he has been asked to be involved in. After 19 years of experience as both a surveyor and an engineer, he has a vast amount of knowledge on ways to get the job done correctly.

Robert Smalley, PE  

Engineer, Project Manager, and S.I.T.  Rob graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno in 2012 with a B.S. in Mining Engineering. After school, he began work with Barrick Gold Corporation as a mine engineer at the Bald Mountain gold mine in Elko, Nevada. Upon moving to Texas in 2014, he worked on the surveying crew for West Belt Surveying. In May of 2015, Rob joined the Atkinson Engineers team and has since earned his Professional Engineering and OSSF Site Evaluator licenses. Currently, he is working on obtaining his surveying license while assisting Neil with site design and project management. Rob brings 6 years of broad experience to the team.

Jason Baker  

Survey Department Manager. After a variety of other careers that gave him experience dealing with people from all walks of life, Jason started his career in surveying on the field crew.  With an excellent work ethic and good people skills, he was moved up to party chief and then into the office.  As survey department manager he coordinates the field crew and in office work of all surveys with efficiency and detail. 

 

Vera E. R. Atkinson, PE  

Bookkeeping and Engineer. Vera graduated from Texas A&M with a civil engineering degree.  After a short time working as an E.I.T. she left the workforce as she and Neil started a family.  She eventually returned to work at Atkinson Engineers not as an engineer but as a part-time bookkeeper and office manager.  Once her youngest was in school, she returned to her E.I.T. work while managing the books on the side.  She is now a Professional Engineer with a focus in Stormwater Quality, but her main job is still the financial side of the business.
